There are currently 23 ongoing research projects at Lund University. In addition the inventory made of projects funded by The Swedish Research Council and The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation showed five more projects, all of which are completed.

There are eight current heritage research projects at the Department of History, one of which is being conducted together with the Department of Communication and Media. The research at the department is characterized by cultural studies and the notions of historic consciousness (historiemedvetande), use of history (historiebruk) and historical culture (historiekultur). Recurring terms in the projects are the role of narratives or discourse, identity, class, gender and ethnicity. Cultural heritage is relevant in several research themes: contrasts and passages between non-modernity and modernity, social relations – between conflict and consensus, identity constructions (national, regional, ethnical, class and/or gender specific), use of history, history education and historiography.

At the Department of Culture Studies there are seven current research projects. The studies are inter-disciplinary and use traditions from a diversity of research fields that are partly overlapping.

The Department of Archaeology and Ancient History currently houses three heritage research projects: two archaeology projects and one in historical archaeology. One focus of the research at the institution has been on cultural heritage and how the past is used in our present world.
Scattered projects (Lund University)
Five heritage research projects (one of which is operated together with the Department of History) are scattered throughout different departments ant centers. Five scattered finished heritage projects have also been found in the inventory of projects funded by The Swedish Research Council and The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation.
